Privacy Policy

At FlickPicker, we take your privacy seriously. We believe in being transparent about our practices and protecting your personal information. This policy applies to the FlickPicker website and the FlickPicker apps for iOS and Android.

1. Information We Collect

We only collect information that is necessary to provide you with our service:

  • Account information: your email address and display name when you create an account. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the name and email associated with that account (with Sign in with Apple, you may choose to hide your email and use a private relay address)
  • Your library and activity: titles you add to your watchlist, titles you mark as watched (your "FlickLog"), ratings, TV progress, and voting choices in rooms
  • Preferences: your region/country, favorite streaming services, and notification settings
  • AI chat content: the messages you send to our AI recommendation assistant, along with limited context (such as your region and watchlist/watched titles) needed to generate relevant suggestions
  • Subscription information: your FlickPicker Premium status and the transaction identifiers needed to validate and manage purchases (we never receive or store your full payment card details)
  • Device and technical data (iOS app): a device identifier used to deliver push notifications, your push notification token, app version, device locale, and region
  • Usage data: basic, aggregated analytics about which features are used so we can improve the service
  • Connected-service information: if you choose to connect Trakt, we store your Trakt display name, encrypted OAuth access and refresh tokens, sync direction, and the minimum library snapshots needed to reconcile watched titles, episode progress, ratings, and your main watchlist safely

We do not collect any personally identifiable information beyond what you explicitly share with us or what is necessary to operate the features described above.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely for:

  • Providing and improving the FlickPicker service across web and iOS
  • Syncing your watchlist, watched library, and preferences across your devices
  • Syncing supported library data with Trakt only when you explicitly connect your account and choose a sync direction
  • Generating personalized recommendations through our AI assistant
  • Sending push notifications you've opted into (such as episode and release alerts)
  • Processing and validating subscriptions and managing your Premium access
  • Managing your account and ensuring security
  • Communicating important service updates

We will never use your data for marketing purposes, sell it to third parties, or use it for any purpose beyond providing and improving our service.

3. AI Recommendation Assistant

FlickPicker includes an AI assistant that helps you find what to watch. To generate responses:

  • The messages you send, together with limited context such as your region and your watchlist/watched titles, are sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) to produce recommendations
  • Your AI chat history in the iOS app is stored locally on your device and is not synced to our servers
  • We do not use your AI conversations to train models, and our AI provider does not use API data to train its models

4. Push Notifications (iOS)

If you grant notification permission in the iOS app, we register a push token for your device so we can send alerts you've opted into, such as when a new episode airs or a title becomes available to stream. To deliver these, we store your push token along with your device's app version, locale, and region. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device's Settings, and signing out removes your device's token from our systems.

5. Subscriptions and Purchases

FlickPicker Premium can be purchased through the Apple App Store (in-app purchase) or on the web. When you purchase through Apple, the transaction is handled by Apple and we receive only the information needed to verify your purchase and grant your Premium entitlement. We do not receive or store your payment card details. Your Premium status is synced so it works across the web and iOS app.

6. Data Storage and Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

  • All data is encrypted in transit and at rest
  • Regular security audits and updates
  • Strict access controls and authentication
  • Connected-service access and refresh tokens are encrypted separately on our server and are never sent to the FlickPicker app

7. Data Retention

We retain your data only as long as necessary to provide our service. Disconnecting Trakt deletes its stored connection credentials while keeping your FlickPicker library. Deleting your FlickPicker account deletes stored Trakt credentials along with your account data. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.

8. Cookies and Tracking

On the web, we use only essential cookies necessary for the service to function:

  • Authentication cookies to keep you logged in
  • Session cookies for room management

We do not use any advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. We use privacy-respecting product analytics only to understand feature usage and improve the service; we do not track you across other apps or websites.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct any inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Export your data in a portable format

10. Third-Party Services

We use a minimal set of third-party services to operate FlickPicker:

  • Google Firebase for authentication, database storage, push notifications (Cloud Messaging), and product analytics
  • Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In for optional account authentication
  • Apple App Store for processing in-app subscriptions
  • OpenAI for powering the AI recommendation assistant
  • TMDB API for movie and TV show information
  • Trakt for optional account-based library synchronization. If you connect it, the selected watched, episode-progress, rating, and main-watchlist data is exchanged with Trakt according to the direction you confirm; reviews and custom FlickPicker lists are not sent

These services have their own privacy policies, but we ensure they meet our high privacy standards.

11. Children's Privacy

FlickPicker is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to Privacy Policy

We will notify you of any material changes to this privacy policy at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after changes indicates your acceptance of the new terms.
